Despite the warm fall weather, it's never too early to enjoy a warm mug of hot chocolate. We particularly love hot chocolate on Sundays, when we're winding down from the weekend and relaxing indoors. So to make our mugs a little more exciting, we came up with these crunchy dippers that pair perfectly with a warm drink. If you like biscotti with your coffee, or Oreos dunked in milk, we guarantee you'll love this fall-flavored combination.
You likely already have everything you need to make these churro-inspired strips, which take just a few minutes in the oven to bake into crispy, crunchy perfection. They need a bit of time to cool to achieve maximum crunchiness, which is when you can warm up your milk and make your mugs of hot chocolate.
We suggest making a big batch of hot chocolate when you're home for the holidays, then serving the mugs on a festive tray with the cinnamon-sugar dunkers. They'll fill the kitchen with a warm, comforting aroma as they bake, and if you have holiday cookie cutters, you could bake the tortilla in different shapes, too.
Crunchy Churro Dunkers
Makes: 20-24 dunkers
Ingredients:
- 4 small flour tortillas, such as La Tortilla Factory Fajita Size Tortillas
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- hot chocolate
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut the tortillas into 1 inch strips and place on a rimmed baking sheet.
Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Brush the strips with half of the melted butter, then sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar. Flip the strips over and brush the other half with the rest of the butter, and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar.
Bake until the strips are golden-brown, about 15 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes (this will help crisp them up).
Serve with warm hot chocolate. Enjoy!
